The ministry step
Wisma Putra attestation, explained
Wisma Putra is step three of four, and the one people most often get turned away from. Here is what the Ministry requires.
What the Ministry attests
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists statutory declarations, certificates of origin, letters of power of attorney, birth certificates, educational certificates and commercial invoices among the documents it attests.
The prerequisites that catch people out
Public documents issued by federal or state agencies need no further endorsement if the original is presented. A photocopy does, and must be certified by a Notary Public first.
Educational certificates must be endorsed or certified by the Ministry of Education, showing a name print, position and stamp, before Wisma Putra will look at them. It is a requirement of the Ministry, not a formality, and it applies to the certificate itself.
Documents issued outside Malaysia must first be authenticated by that country's mission in Malaysia, and anything not in English must be translated into English.
Counter, hours and turnaround
Consular Division, Wisma Putra, Precinct 2, Putrajaya. Walk-in basis. Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 4.00pm. Friday 8.30am to 12.00pm and 2.45pm to 4.00pm. The Ministry states documents are collected the same day or at the latest the following working day.
Why people use us for this step
Because it is a counter in Putrajaya with a queue and a prerequisite checklist. We confirm the prerequisite is satisfied before we go, which is the difference between one trip and three.
Questions
Can I do the Wisma Putra step myself?
Yes. It is a walk-in counter in Putrajaya. Most of our clients use us because of the prerequisite checking and the travel, not because access is restricted.
What is the fee at Wisma Putra?
The Ministry does not publish a fee on the page we cite, so we confirm the current charge per document rather than quoting a figure that may be out of date.
Is Wisma Putra the last step?
No. For a document going abroad the destination country's embassy in Kuala Lumpur adds the final stamp after Wisma Putra.
